My school blocks blahaj.zonr due to “hosting pornography” but I’ve never seen that kind of content on this website ( I have nsfw hidden, but still) and the rules don’t mention nsfw anywhere. I live in Europe if that helps.

Unfortunately, LGBTQ-centric content is often labeled as “pornography” by the more reactionary forces of society, regardless of whether or not there’s anything in it that’s pornographic in nature.

I doubt your school did this deliberately, mind. But whoever built the filtering software did.

If you have NSFW hidden, you probably won’t see the porn ;)

In fairness, there’s not a lot of it. And with the ubiquity of internet porn it’s not like your school IT department could realistically block it all anyway

I think of blahaj.zone as being a queer place first. The porn wasn’t a consideration when I joined, and I’m sure that’s true of most members. It’s a major bummer that the community at large is blocked for you.

Is reddit blocked too? You could draw some parallels to how they host content, and there’s wayyy more porn there.

Most social medias are blocked, but Lemmy doesn’t seem big enough to be blocked. However, the social media blocks don’t show an error explaining why. (Reddit is blocked, but not because of porn.) It also seems like the block on blahaj.zone has Been reverted today, but I don’t know if it’ll stay like that . Edit: blahaj.zone is unblocked but doesn’t work. Lemmy.blahaj.zone works fine but pictures.blahaj.zone is blocked.

Even if the instance doesn’t host any itself, the blocklist creator may think that other federated instances count as hosting or something.
