I am having issues setting up some Matter compatible TP Link Tapo smart plugs that have been setup with HomeKit with other smart home ecosystems. The devices work perfectly in HomeKit, but if I put a plug into pairing mode and then try to add it to Alexa, Google, Home Assistant, or Smart Things, it goes through the configuring process, I get a HomeKit banner notification saying it’s been added, but then I ultimately receive a message within the configuration card that opens from the bottom of the screen stating that it’s failed to add the device and that I may have to restart the device. I understand I can link the plugs in the Tapo app by and enable an Alexa Skill to connect them, but I’m wanting to utilize Matter pairing to control them without having to use the Tapo API. It seems like it’s either an issue with HomeKit or my network because I have the same issue whether I try to add the devices to Alexa, Google, Home Assistant, or Smart Things. I’m using an iPhone 15 Pro on a WiFi 6E network. Any ideas on how to overcome this issue?

I haven’t tried this, yet, but to take advantage of the multi-admin feature of Matter, you do something like this:

    1. Pair the device to Apple Home
    2. From within the Apple Home app, generate a new pairing code for the device (that code will be different from the one that came with the device, and will expire in 5 minutes)
    3. Use that code to pair the device to the second controller
