Hello 👋🏼

I’m looking to add the first bit of smart tech to my home and was hoping for a bit of advice!

We’re mid-garage gym renovation and something that’s bugging me is the light switch being on the back wall with the only entrance being the rolling garage door. During the day this isn’t much of an issue, but in the evening when it’s dark, it’s a real pain!

I’ve looked on Amazon, and I’m sure I could make this work… But it seems as though Amazon is massively oversaturated, certain things need “hubs”, others don’t… and I want to make sure I’m getting the right thing. Ideally, I’d like a cost-effective solution while I test the waters.

My first thoughts are that I’d need some sort of motion sensor and a smart switch, so when I open my garage door, the sensor will tell my light switch to turn on, remain on while there’s motion, and then turn back off after x minutes of no motion when nobody is around. I’m not sure if this is the ideal path to take, so I’m open to all advice and opinions!

I’m in the UK if it matters… Thanks for any guidance you can offer :)

Thanks!!

Edit: Based on my initial thoughts I’ve found these - But I’m not sure how Tapo is regarded as a brand?

If this is all you want to accomplish, just get either a dumb switch with a motion sensor built in, or a dump light with a motion sensor built in.

I have shop lights in my garage that are motion activated, and a dumb motion switch in my laundry room. The rest of my house is smart with automations, but for this, just stay simple imho.
