First of all, it’s not a guarantee that an independent post-war Ukraine would swing authoritarian (it’s also not unlikely given the global trend towards authoritarianism, however Ukraine has built strong relations with the West which would strongly encourage they continue westernizing to continue reaping the economic and social benefits of good relations with the West)

Secondly, I just gave members of the LGBTQ community as an example of a people for whom annexation is not an option. No need to get so triggered over it

I “now claim?” What do you even mean? One country is making progress on LGBTQ rights and doesn’t legally persecute members of the community, the other just labeled the entire LGBTQ rights movement as an extremist organization!

In a war spawned by an attempted annexation, this is a war of continued countryhood or not. This isn’t some petty land dispute over some shitty little island or some acres of farmland, this isn’t a grinding war of people in power who can’t talk to eachother like grownups where the folks on the ground ultimately have little dog in the fight other than surviving, it’s literally a war of “do I continue living in a growing, modernizing democracy with western ties or a backsliding authoritarian dictatorship that’s constantly trying to relive the Soviet glory days”
