They’re all Star Trek fans. Boimler is the fan who loves all of Trek but especially the weird stuff. Mariner is the fan who feels betrayed by the series’s turn into themes of war and hates DS9 and Picard. Tendi is the newer fan who comes from the violent and dramatic stuff like the movies, but prefers the intellectual stuff and feels ashamed of her background. Rutherford is the fan who’s enamoured with Star Trek’s themes of hope and redemption.
