I just received this welded for small tasks around the house. First attempts to weld anything and it is not striking an arc to anything no matter how clean or what material. Finally I tried a quick trigger pull right to the copper on the ground clamp and nothing happened.

Where do I start my troubleshooting or do I just send it back?

Thanks

Don’t worry everyone, I’m just an idiot. One would think the ground clamp would go on - but it actually goes on +. You all know that I’m sure but for some machines it’s electric positive and others electrode negative. Regardless they even color code it and show you in the manual which I also read a few times. Finally got it though. Maybe this helps someone else.

On my welder you have to change the polarity depending on whether you’re using gas or flux core. Maybe that’s why it was backwards?

This is the way. I have to change my machine around depending on what gas I’m using and what metal I’m welding.

        New machine problems.
