Yeah, that’s very different. This is banning phones in the classroom, because they’re a distraction. It’s like banning phones in the movie theater. There are plenty of good places to have reasonable bans.
I can remember when they banned not wearing your seatbelt when in an automobile. Not just the driver, but everyone. You weren’t even allowed to be in the car if there weren’t enough seatbelts. I think that ban went pretty well.

Except no ones forcing you to go to the theater. A 15 year old is forced to go to school 9-3 every day.
My kid is in middle school and her school is the same way. Lockers only for emergency.
Neither of those were enforceable. Taking their phones while in class definitely is.
