Why would I need to debunk it? Does anyone think it was the Martians that killed him?

Ask Netanyahu, he’s the thinking that he has plausible deniability by silencing his ministers.

    What an overblown headline.

Netanyahu’s office demanded that ministers not make statements to the media regarding the assassination

It’s not really about what I think.

Ordering media silence means the media has been ordered not to report on something, like the Chinese media and declining economic indicators. That’s not the case here.

That would be a government enforced media silence - media silence just means people not talking to the media or the media not reporting on a subject, it doesn’t require a direct order from the government to the media to not report on something. Media might create a voluntary silence, where they agree not to report on a subject, or might have a silence pushed on them, like football’s “silenzio stampa”, where teams will refuse to talk to or interact with the press when they’re unhappy with reporting.

Israeli Knesset member from the Likud party, Danny Danon, congratulated security forces for the assassination in what appears to be the first official Israeli acknowledgment of responsibility.

"I congratulate the Israeli army, the Shin Bet, and the Mossad and the security forces on killing the senior Hamas official Salah al-Arouri in Beirut,‘’ Danon wrote on X.

The article isn’t overblown. No statements on the bombing are allowed to be made by the Israeli government to fake plausible deniabilty.

It’s like a new trend I’m seeing here on lemmy. Every anti israel article some guy comes in and calls it “overblown and out of proportions” when the article is clearly backed up with evidence.

Silencing the media is a much bigger deal than a government body not talking publicly about a military operation.

I believe the term for that is a media blackout. Or silencing journalists.

Netanyahu is demanding media silence from the ministers. In direct response to one of them admitting in a social media post that israel did the bombing.

If they knew secret war operation details Netanyahu wouldn’t need to mention this silencing to begin, with since leaking that is already forbidden.

Wow. The only dude that actually read the article instead of reacting to the headline got down voted. Lemmy truly is just DIY reddit.

Censorship is done by the state. Media silence is done by the media voluntarily.

If you get punished by the state for not complying with a demand for media silence, then what is the difference? (I’m not referring specifically to this case, but in general)
