I’m happy for any readers who have been enjoying Venom over the last 1–2 years, but to me, the series jumped the shark a while ago and I no longer recognize the character. To me, the character works best when it is in the head space of the symbiote/host relationship and I’d like to see a return to a more grounded take that includes a mental health approach aka battling one’s internal daemons. This cosmic Venom is certainly a different take, but I just don’t see as one that gets the character. I’d love it if Lemire or a similar writer ever took up the reigns but until something like this happens, the character will remain on the periphery for me despite my fondness for earlier approaches and runs.
