In early november I purchased a hard drive from dell for about $200. No more than 30 second after I hit purchase I noticed they had the exact one in stock at a local store, and would rather pick it up there. I immediately got on the chat and spoke with someone, and canceled the order, got explicit confirmation that it was canceled and went to purchase the other one.

Two weeks later I notice they still charged my credit card the full amount for the hard drive from Dell. I was able to pull up the old chat through history and take a screenshot, submitted this as part of a dispute on my credit card, and a month later the credit card sided with me and refunded the full amount, easy enough, should all be done now.

Yesterday, three months after original purchase, I get an email that I’ve received an invoice on paypal, weird since I purchased the drive directly with my credit card, not through paypal, but okay. Reading the message it was from dell, ["dell_29@dell.com](mailto:“dell_29@dell.com)” sent to the paypal associated with the email I used to send tracking info when I had purchased it from them. They added a note saying that There was a credit card dispute placed on an order, gave the reference number, and said because of that my dell account was now negative and I owed them money. the invoice was for the exact dollar amount of the transaction and for the specific hard drive, it was the only thing in the transaction. No call back number or anything, no way to get in touch with anyone about it (besides the email, of which I haven’t gotten a repsonse), since each of the different chats I’ve treid talking to have no idea on their end what I’m talking about. I figure this is some loss prevention team or something but there’s no way to get in touch.

They marked the invoice past due as of the day that the purchase was made back in november, now I’m scared after seeing online they can report it on your credit and it could hurt my credit score. (I mean, they shouldn’t have my social so idk if they can do that??) but I never received the device, my credit card even sided with me because it was very clear it was canceled, since when are they allowed to just charge me via a completely different payment method (I never use paypal, this is the only transaction that shows up on my paypal history in the last 3 years I buy directly with card number etc.) and how do I even fight this? I’ve filed a dispute with paypal but I’m yet to hear from them so far, or am I stupid and I’m getting scammed? I mean I haven’t paid anything but they did provide a reference number for the dispute that matched and they are sending to a dell.com domain, I haven’t sent any money yet but it doesn’t seem like a scam it seems like Dell’s loss prevention is up my ass thinking I’m trynig to reverse a charge and get a free drive when I very clearly didn’t receive it, and I don’t think you can just charge someone however you see fit after a credit card disputes something. I mean as part of the dispute process (this was american express but same goes for any card) doesn’t the seller have an opportunity to add their side and say whatever they feel, and if that was the case and amex still sided with me you can just charge me in some other random way you see fit??
