I don’t know if it’s just the brain that I’m equipped with or if this is a huge struggle for others, but these horrid questions always seem to nosedive an otherwise great interview. Even though there’s endless examples of these situations throughout my working career, the minute I get asked these questions it’s like my whole brain decides to shut down and I cannot recall a single good example. I’ve been a manager for several places that trusted me with a ton of responsibility and yet these interviewers think these questions can sum up all that I am and all that I’ve experienced. I’ve even had one interview where this was the entirety of all they had to say to me, just one after another in front of 3 individuals staring me down. All these serve to do is ruin interviews for me and I don’t understand why EVERY company is now incorporating them into the process. Could I perhaps be coached into giving the right kinds of answers? Probably, but I don’t like feeling dishonest and frankly why should I have to invest so much time and potentially money into the interview process for companies that won’t even come close to paying me a living wage, let alone a competitive one? I’m just so sick of it.
