    This is why it’s so important to call out your own when they’re breaking the rules.

    If you’ll forgive the comparison, it’s a bit like the rise of the US “alt-right”. It started out as a fringe group and their fanaticism was useful to the then-majority within party. But a consistent failure to call out the bad behavior led to that behavior becoming acceptable and then shortly after, a litmus test for whether you were a “true” party member.
