    how much worse does the situation in the US have to devolve to for the citizens to revolt or do they just vote and bend over?

      I’ve been reading this book about how people change minds, and it talks about how belief is social. If people are presented with facts that contradict their social groups, the brain often treats that the same as it treats a physical threat.

      So you have all these people for who being Red is like a key part of their identity. Anything that clashes with that is going to be difficult to for them to see, because that means being physically uncomfortable.

      So they’re not likely to change any time soon. Especially not when the like leadership of their faction (churches, big name politicians like trump, etc) aren’t taking point.

      On the other hand, horrible trauma can also shake people up enough for them to change their beliefs. Sometimes you get people who still deny covid while literally dying from it, but sometimes you do get someone who loses their entire house to a mega hurricane who will accept climate change is real. Sometimes. It really depends a lot on their existing social groups.
