Very true, but it’s also important to have a sense of humour about yourself and people have to take some responsibility for their own lives. I always tell myself, “the easy solution to not looking fat in pictures is to not be fat.”
Also, not being fat is proven to improve your mental health and cognitive abilities, so there’s kind of a double-edged sword there.
You’re right, people could benefit from losing weight. That’s why you shouldn’t fat shame strangers. You’ll probably increase their feelings of shame and make them fatter. If you know someone and that they have a good sense of humour, then it’s fine. But most people don’t have a good sense of humour, and especially most fat people don’t have a good history with being called fat. You can’t make someone’s sense of humour improve by insulting them. That’s like saying “the beatings will continue until morale improves”.
It’s all well and good to wish people were better, but there’s no way you can achieve that by expecting them to already be perfect. We live in a universe governed by the laws of causality. Free will can only take someone as far as the strength of their will. You need to think about what’s realistic.
Agreed 100%. I’ll make fun of myself and my friends for getting fat, but not random people…. unless they’re assholes too. 🤷🏻♂️
But also some people push the idea that being fat isn’t detrimental to their health and that should be challenged.
I wasn’t trying to say I condone this post, just explaining the difference between making fun of somewhere for being fat and racism because the original comment I replied to genuinely didn’t seem to understand.
