A swimsuit is quite common in Norway. Basically you ask yourself the question “am I going to make anyone uncomfortable”. If it’s single gender and people are not extremely shy, you generally go with only a towel, but nobody is really going to care. If you’re a gender mixed group of friends that don’t know each other that well, you might prefer putting on a swimsuit in order to make sure people feel comfortable and included.
From my experience the Swedes are the same.
This is based on private saunas with friends. In public mixed gender saunas I don’t think I’ve seen anyone go naked, but I’m sure certain Finnish tourists would and nobody would mind.
Is it true that nudity in Scandinavia is getting rarer and people are getting more prudish?
Because I heard that back in the day people were commonly naked in public, like at the beach or in sauna. But now it seems like American(?) culture has influenced the place a lot.
I’m definitely feeling that the west was heading in a direction up to about the 90s/00’s of being more liberal and more open to peoples opinions. But now it seems like people are very conservative in a lot of ways and a lot more that there is only one way to think and everything else is absoultely disgraceful.
Yes, I would say so. Especially for younger individuals.
But I don’t think America is the problem. It’s the fact that phone cameras are everywhere. One photo that’s spread to people you know (or don’t know) could be extremely embarrassing and could ruin your “reputation” or whatever in school.
I believe the fears about nudity starts in school because of course they do, that’s when young people feel most vulnerable.
It’s one of the things in life I really got wrong. Like majorly wrong about the future.
I get the phone camera aspect but I thought people would just care less. I thought there would be more of a separation between work and social life for example. “Yea so I went to that orgy then got fucked up and passed out in a bush. I was sober Monday and did a great job, my personal life is my own.” Kind of deal.
But it’s getting worse than your personal life is controlled by your work.
Even your Internet life is rolling into work and social life. I always thought that would be seperate. My friends knew my runescape name and my COD name and that was it. The Internet was my own life.
I know there is drama about being naked as a kid but like, I just thought it would less of a deal in general. I figured that shit like that would become more noticeable therefore less scandalous. Kind of analogous to being gay

But it hasn’t.
