“The “Thank God for Slavery” political ploy was taken out of context from a message I preached 15 years ago. The message was not about slavery but about overcoming obstacles in life as a believer of Jesus Christ. Taking it out of that setting and putting it in any other context is simply slanderous.”

Slavery as well as the war started and lost by the southern states over it are a shameful stain on our past. The answer is not to pretend that it happened differently or to look for some kind of silver lining for the enslaved, we should be acknowledging that it was wrong to treat people as property and finding a productive way to move on from that type of thinking.

It’s disgusting that there’s still a market for things like the traitors’ flag and groups that are formed around their connection to the secessionists. The whole thing is a waste of time, effort and money and they’re not getting their slaves back any time soon so why bother? I don’t think we should make the symbols or groups illegal but teaching the truth of what happened should remove the demand for those things.
