Hello there!

The lemmit.online instance has a bot that fetches reddit posts via RSS.

This means that you can now visit and subscribe to subs like:

!furry_irl@lemmit.online

!gfur@lemmit.online

!yiff@lemmit.online

!feral_yiff@lemmit.online

You can request a feed for any subreddit you want over at Requests.

Now, how can we use this?

I don’t think we should massively cross-post. Since these are bot submitted, it makes sense to follow our current bot guidelines which should limit cross-posts to 1 post, per user, per sub every 3 hours. (Ie. every user on this platform can submit one bot-post per community every three hours).

We can then later decide whether to increase or decrease that limit.

What to do when cross-posting:

If you want to cross-post PLEASE edit the body of the post and remove all the text except for the link to the original post on Lemmit.online. You can potentially also leave the name of OP on reddit as we discuss how to best handle this type of posts.

Also, make sure that all submissions have at the very least the artist in the title. An exception can be made for memes temporarily until we find a better way and as long as there’s a cross-post link. Ideally you’d want to fetch the sauce from the reddit comments, but I understand if you don’t want to open reddit itself or can’t.

The goal is to use lemmit.online to allow everyone to browse more furry content without giving traffic or ad revenue to reddit and to cross-post with moderation those submissions you find are high quality and would love to share with others.

Regarding the morality of using reddit feeds:

a) This is 100% legal using reddit’s own RSS Feed

b) The artist is the real content provider here. What matters is that attribution is given to the artist. Reddit not being able to profit from an artist’s work is an upside if you ask me.

c) The original poster over at reddit gets referenced via the cross-post link, although we can discuss if we should keep their handle in the post’s body maybe?

Please share your thoughts. Thank you <3

This is great! It reminds me of Matrix bridging, which eases the network effect and allows people to move over without missing content from reddit. I wonder how long reddit will keep RSS feeds as a feature. This whole situation has really forced them to go mask-off, and they might just implement all the negative user changes all at once instead of trying to stretch them out to prevent people from noticing the slope.

Yeah, it might be a just a matter of weeks, but I agree that it eases the transition.

Especially with yiff / furry images that weren’t created by OP on reddit but an artist, I believe there’s a strong moral case that we should not care whether or not reddit profits from an artist’s content.

In the end we’re essentially just using lemmy as any other RSS reader.

That’s pretty cool! Those feeds will send across ALL new posts, so I guess the respective communities on yiffit could act like a filter - i.e. people could cross post the stuff they like best. That way the communities here get to keep their identity and receive the ‘creme de la creme’ of content x3
