A federal appeals court blocked a racist Florida law that restricts Chinese citizens from buying land from being enforced against the two people who sued the state. The court did not, however, block the law entirely; it’s still in effect for everyone else. One of the judges, Nancy Abudu, agreed that this was a blatant violation of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the ACLU of Florida intends to continue fighting to prevent this law from being enforced more broadly.

This fight isn’t over, but this decision certainly acknowledges the discriminatory nature of this law and is a big win.

Damn, I think we have a new record for impotent angry lib! A full 8 hours of an internet tough guy being racist, ableist and homophobic while insisting that they’re not any of those things because they feel like they aren’t those things, despite ample evidence to the contrary from their comments.

Been a while since I’ve seen a classic internet tough guy, surprised they’re not challenging people to fights in parking lots. Based on how glued to this thread they’ve been for 8 hours, I would guess it’s because standing up out of their chair leaves them winded.

This phenomenon fascinates me. As far as I have managed to understand it, it is because while a marxist will identify the use of perjorative language that attempts to brand someone else as homosexual, disabled, etc. in order to denigrate them as inherently reactionary due to how it implies that all of those things are negative, a liberal will not consider such an act to be homophobic, ableist, sexist and so on as long as you do not maintain that behaviour with most people of said group. In their mind, being ok with most people of the LGBT community makes you not homophobic despite frequently using the word “c-cksucker” against men they don’t like, being ok with most women makes them not sexist despite calling women they don’t like “b-tches”, and so on.

In short, “it’s ok as long as i don’t say it into their faces”, which is perfectly consistent with ideological cornerstone of liberalism being hypocrisy.

Exactly. In their eyes, the instant a person opposes liberal interests, anything and everything against them, including tools of systemic oppression such as homophobia, racism and sexism, is fair game, and that won’t make you a reactionary unless you use those only against “deserving” people.

A liberal’s objection to racism, homophobia etc is often that it is “technically incorrect” rather than objecting to it on moral grounds. So if they feel that racism is “true” then it becomes acceptable. But as we know, a liberal’s concept of truth is usually based more on what they feel is true, rather than reality. So like Flamingoaks said, if they think someone “deserves” it, then it stops being bigotry.

They also shuffle people into good or bad “teams” rather than judging people based on actions and since liberals are on the “good guy team” that means that no matter how racists or homophobic or sexist they are, they aren’t really those things, because they’re a good guy.

I’m just surprised we got such a perfect case study of one, this guy couldn’t be more stereotypical if he tried. Initially gives an attempt to try and not sound racist (“I know I’m saying all foreigners are destroying America, but is there a more cleaned up dogwhistle euphemism I could use to mask my racism?”) but quickly gives up on that and starts hurling slurs and bigoted insults the instant they’re challenged and not coddled.

Because this whole thing pissed me off a lot when it was approved, have the webpage of the bill for this law. Note how it passed unanimously in the senate.

Note that it also restricts property ownership for people from Russia, Syria, Venezuela, DPR Korea and Cuba.

Note also how vague the wording is on the definition of a “foreign principal”.

It also requires those “foreign principals” that already own property to register themselves with the state government.

Yeah, sorry, but NOBODY should be able to buy US land except US citizens. Period. Same goes for any country. How many apartment complexes here are owned by India? They drive up the prices of units so we can no longer afford a place to live. How many farms are owned by Saudis? They abuse our environmental and water usage laws and regulations, destroying our environment and using up our water. I don’t care if people come here illegally or seek asylum; it’s not about that. They’re just trying to survive. I’m talking about how there are bad actors that abuse our systems to fuck up our country. And if you don’t see it, you’re not paying attention.

Oh no poor little lonely settler colony US of A is being colonized by the compradors of it’s neocolonies.

They abuse our environmental and water usage laws and regulations, destroying our environment and using up our water.

      Jfc the gall of yanks.

The US itself is an abuse of the country and an affront to humanity. It’s citizens unable to see the irony of genociding the indigenous people and wantonly destroying the environment and then getting upset that foreign capital does the exact thing that US imperialism is set up to achieve.

Your problem is not with Indians or Saudi Arabians. It’s with capitalism. It doesn’t matter who owns the property. The problem that you dislike is the fact that private property exists in the first place. If you put the racism down and step away from it, you might see that more clearly.

You were moaning about Indians and Saudi Arabians owning property in the US. Well, you did that thing where you said the countries owns the property, rather than the people. At the same time as saying you don’t mind foreigners so long as they’re asylum seekers, implying that they must stay begging and desperate. Which is to say, your issue is with foreigners, not foreign states, owning US property.

Okay, the article is about China. So why did you bring up foreign capital within the US?

On that topic of China, you don’t have a problem with any race but you find it acceptable to refer to a Chinese person using a racist caricature.

And why are you now bringing up Russia? What does Russia have to do with this?

It doesn’t matter whether you said anything about race in specific terms. I’m telling you that your comment is racist and relies on a racist framework. It’s okay if you didn’t understand this before but now that it’s been explained, it’s time to look inwards. You can choose to learn from this experience and grow or you can continue promoting the US brand of racist exceptionalism.

I have a problem with any culture or government that seeks to fuck with other countries and cultures.

Then I look forward to hearing about your escapades against the US and everything it stands for.

The sheer Statesianess of saying “I don’t care about race” within the same paragraph as referencing a racist caricature.

If you have such a problem with “governments that seek to fuck with other countries and cultures”, maybe you should educate yourself on what your homeland you so adore has done just within the 50 ten years?

It can be overwhelming, there’s so much horrifying shit. Maybe pick a small region first. I’d suggest Central America. El Salvador, Grenada and Haiti are right there. Or you can just look up Operation Condor if you’re feeling ambitious.

I’m sure your devoted love to Turtle Island will continue unshaken if you earnestly try to confront its (recent) history. That’s just sarcasm, I highly doubt you’ll ever critically evaluate your own state and state-approved ideology.

Please ask your friends or relatives if they believe that you have anger issues. This is not a joke, and I am not telling you this in an attempt to make you look worse or make myself look better. I am seriously disturbed reading your replies; nobody needs to get this angry over this topic.

I know that there’s a low chance that you’ll take my advice, but all that I’m asking is that you ask your friends or relatives about your anger. That is it; you don’t need to do anything else. Are you willing to try that? Please think about it.

Perhaps you might know a few instances of foreigner capitalists owning and abusing the land and raising rent prices in a manner that hurts renters and the land. Black Rock capital is an American corporation that has consolidated and owned lots of apartments. https://eightify.app/summary/economy-and-finance/blackrock-s-dominance-in-housing-market-raises-concerns

You are complaining about Saudi corporations owning and abusing the water table when plenty of American corporations do the same thing. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/drought-water-scare-gets-attention-agribusiness-giant-adm-flna1c7114296 However, out of necessity they will have to appear to conserve water due to bad press and make a lot of articles about how they say that they are saving water. They will need to because appearing not to care will affect their stock price.

The issue is not foreign capitalists, it is capitalism. And capitalists just doing what is most profitable will lead to a collapse regardless. Capitalism is always in crisis, then the people get angry due to the negative outcomes, then they get the government to come in and regulate these corporations. However the neoliberal institutions are pulling back democratic control from the people to service the bottom line of these corporations even further. That is more dangerous for stabilizing capitalism than the foreigner capitalists.

This neoliberal model has brought poverty to many of the nations in South America, Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa for this very same reason. Western corporations have exploited people in these countries like this. Now they are coming back to us. Dollars have potential to lose value more than ever before, but land does not as much. The main problem has always been the contradiction between those that work the land and live in apartments and those that profit from it despite their distance from it whether it be a foreign corporation or a domestic capitalist.

Roosevelt was able to regulate capitalism because capitalism wasn’t working under Hoover for the people (alot more than usual). Also a communist country was starting to thrive and industrialize. This inspired many communists to unionize their workplaces. Many of the leadership were communists in all of the unions. These unions had political power. Roosevelt was very popular among the American proletariat. He saved capitalism through his negotiations with the borgiosie and meeting the needs of the American workers. Furthermore due to the large oceans protecting the North American continent, the ravages of World War 2 left the United States mostly unscathed. Industrial workers were able to produce goods for higher prices temporarily because they were the only ones able to manufacture complex goods. As other countries were able to bring their industry back up online over time, this competitive edge waned in relevance. The capitalists were making less profits from industrial production so they leaned into rent seeking and finance. They offshored the jobs of the former industrial centers. They made it harder to unionize and strike. The generations after have noticed capital taking power back from the people. Now we are in neoliberalism. Letting the borgiosie have political power is the problem. They will always make things worse.

What part of capitalism is worth preserving? The “good times” of America were brought by stealing land from native Americans, enslaving Africans, exploitative working conditions of immagrants, the luck of geography, and the severely exploitative system of the Breton Woods system. https://yewtu.be/watch?v=M0Ef_hbNsBs&listen=false

All of which if you are a decent person would recognize that these are bad. All of these are the conditions that bring wealth to the United States. That’s the bathwater. Where is the baby?

China sees no need to do exploitation in this manner and is offering better trade deals and seeking to engage in countries as equals rather than dominate them like the Breton Woods system. They have capitalists, but they have no political power. Why not try to reform the United States to crack down of these parasitic capitalists like China does for the good of the people? We have much to learn from China. But our leaders won’t listen. China encounters problems and they solve them. America encoutners problems and they fester with everything else.

That is why there is so much demonization of trans people, ethnic minorities, and foreign nations to distract people from the fact that capitalism is not meeting the American people’s needs.

“America” historically as a concept has been mostly an institution of exploitation. To get rid of the exploitative systems is to destroy what makes it “America”. Thus the death of America is the means of saving the people by giving them the power to determine their destiny, not controlled by the greedy capitalists.

That is far too long to dive into properly as I’m about to crash, but I will say that the baby is the US; you know democracy. At least its supposed to be even though it’s an oligarchy at this point, but it can be fixed if we get our shit together. Capitalism is the bathwater, and once again, communism is not the answer either. And if you really want fix these things, it’s much better to present it as such and not “the death of America”. Union leaders being communist isn’t a surprise, and I’m very much pro-union. Hell, one of my favorite folk singers was communist, but he wasn’t a tankie, and I doubt those union bosses were, either. They just had faith in an economic system that doesn’t work, just like capitalists.

The word other than ‘foreign’ that you’re looking for is ‘capitalist’, but as you seem to be specifically talking about foreign capital, there’s no need to be squeamish.

Foreign capital is unlikely to invest with the intention of collapsing the US economy. Investors invest to get a return. Any collapse that follows is simply from the weight of the contradictions of capitalism. If foreign capital is permitted to sharpen those contradictions, it’s only because domestic (neoliberal) capital has created a system to facilitate such practices because it also benefits from it.

There are vulture capitals, of course, but the US has these aplenty and any foreign capitalists looking to do shock treatment to the US are a drop in a deep and wide ocean. Who needs foreign capital for that when the domestic state is run for exactly that purpose?

I don’t know which interpretation of the ‘I’m offended’ is worse:

            1. “How dare you suggest that there’s any legitimate way of owning land in the US other than violently murdering the current owner and simply taking it for oneself?”
              Or

Like the European immigrantes who illegally took all the land that the First Nations worked hard for through military coercion and inheritance theif from the 150 years of fake school Holocaust that inspired the Nazi Holocaust? You should not complain about foreign occupation because the Western European diaspora boost that buying land is part of free market, freedom, meritocracy, and “civilization by colonizers” who are supposedly responsible for all the prosperity of the colonized people. Since the Western European diaspora deny their racist double standards, I am sure that the Western European diaspora will openly sell their land and properties to foreigners especially when the foreigners had buy land more legally and ethically than the Western European diaspora tradition of fake school genocide that the Nazi German imitated. The Weatern European diaspora might even praise occupation of the stolen land by foreigners as a Western European colonial tradition to civilize the natives just as the US establish military base across the world to impose dictatorship and a command economy.
