This us what the language setting is meant for. You’d think there’d be rudimentary language, checks at least at the character set level. Meanwhile, ι ψαν σςιτψη το Φρεεκ ςιτη νο προβλεμ.

You definitely do not want to set a post to Japanese just because they used a Japanese character. People’s posts would not be seen by many people and they wouldn’t know it was all because they were explaining a Japanese character to someone in English.

Not just because they use a Japanese character, but if the whole comment is just foreign characters there’s no good reason it couldn’t detect that.

So it’s only for non-latin characters? What about cyrillic? That’s not readable for many people as well. But how do you set a language? There are many languages that use cyrillic.

It’s definitely a bit of a rabbit hole, but I think eventually language detection could be implemented. If we keep getting spam posts like these then there will be a clear incentive to do so.

Well, better mod tooling is the solution here, IMO. I’ve added some rules to my automod and all the future spams matching this format will be deleted immediately. It’s a never-ending game of a cat and mouse.
