He’s not wrong, he’ll be remembered for the rules he broke. Perhaps the quote wasn’t meant as an inspiration, but a warning. MacArthur did lose his job over his rule-breaking.
Knowing which rules can (or even should) be bent/broken, and which rules absolutely shouldn’t be compromised can be difficult but… not in this case. This was easily avoidable.
