A lot of neoliberal charities just reinforce neoliberalism

I know someone who was arrested for climate protesting and was sentenced to community service. One of the community service tasks was making aboriginal dot paintings to sell for a fundraiser or something. The important thing is that dot paintings are a culturally significant artifact with a genuine purpose in aboriginal societies. My friend is white and the people telling her to do this were white. Nobody there had the lived experience to be able to produce culturally authentic and respectful dot paintings.

So basically my friend tried to improve society, and the government sentenced her to do racist cultural appropriation to undo the “harm” of her crimes.
