    I remember a friend’s wife died of cancer.

    Not long afterwards the research center that treated her did a fund raising drive in her name.

    I gave several thousand dollars to the cause and shortly after was invited to a very expensive function as a way of the research center thanking its donors.

    I was furious they wasted my money on that function and all of it did not go to cancer research.
