In a move seen as a veiled attempt to ban Pride flags, Huntington Beach voters approved an amendment to the city’s charter this week that barred the city from displaying anything other than a select few official government flags on city property.

According to the Orange County Registrar, 58% of the voters in the beachside city supported the amendment and 42% opposed it. Turnout was low — only 23% of the city’s registered voters headed to the polls.

The charter amendment bars the city from flying anything on city property but the city flag, the Orange County flag, the state of California flag and the American flag as well as some military flags and the Olympic flag.

That demographic is all over the country. What makes you think it isn’t in Huntington Beach, just because it is southern California?

I thought it was clear from context, but since it wasn’t, Huntington Beach didn’t pass an anti-LGBTQ law because leftists (allegedly) didn’t come out to vote in a primary. It passed because it’s full of conservative shitheads and the number of them far outweighs any hypothetical leftists that didn’t vote hard enough.

Which is something I think because I live in LA county and know what kind of people choose to live in Huntington Beach.

Fair enough. I was being genuine, a lot of people like to talk in absolutes about California and don’t even live there so that’s why it wasn’t clear to me. Frankly I just see it as a primary with a Democrat incumbent that had legislation on the ballot but like… who was actually motivated to vote in California this primary ?

HB is the fucking worst though.
