I had a change of career a few years back which meant I was less on PT and more on the road in my car. It quickly became apparent that given a choice, many Aussie drivers will do the wrong thing, be it running red lights, tailgating, sitting 10k under the speed limit in the overtaking lane, failing to indicate, or even making sure their car is roadworthy (no brake lights, bald tyres etc). It seems to be a combination of poor driver training (L/P platers getting taught their parents’ bad habits) and a sense of entitlement.

That said, the authorities don’t really help matters. Every road I drive on is fucked with potholes, the traffic light system seems deliberately designed to shunt drivers from one set of reds to the next, and the speed limits on major roads are frustratingly slow - it’s been almost 60 years since the UK introduced a 70mph limit on the motorways…that’s 112km/h…yet here we are in 2023 with a max of 100km/h on most freeways. Ridiculous.

Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant!
