This week, with little forewarning, more than 70,000 State Farm policyholders in California were unceremoniously informed that their insurance policies would not be renewed.
Don’t worry, thier CEO made a record setting amount of money in cash last year.
State Farm paid CEO Michael Tipsord more than $24 million in cash for 2021, a record-setting compensation level for the insurer and likely the largest cash haul of any chief executive in the U.S.
I mean, maybe its the insurance companies that will save the environment after all. Our zoning and urban growth boundaries are out of control. We keep building out in areas that make no sense: flood prone wetlands, hurricane risk averse coastlines, forest fires etc. We need to stop stripping every inch of the US land for single family low density development–its insanity.
Yeah. It is easy for a politician to deny climate change and encourage development in high risk areas. It is a lot harder for someone to put money on it.
I agree. Our housing and zoning policies need to be rewritten. My neighborhood favors restoring old houses vs demolish and rebuild - which is more expensive. And the permitting process is expensive, outdated, and slow. If you mess up on the permit process, they could red tag the home.
