It doesn’t help the political discussion at all to pretend a huge fraction of the population are beyond reason.

Being a student of history, it seems to happen often enough to caution against dismissing out of hand the possibility that it’s not limited to imagination or pretending on behalf of those observing the behavior of a huge fraction of the population.
