I’m a professional film and TV editor. In between jobs, I recut the Kenobi show from a weak 6-hour miniseries to a strong 2-hour movie (including full sound & score remixing via split-audio I managed to get).

My goal for this redux was to create a tight, entertaining adventure story from the original assets.

Unlike the Patterson cut, or other fan-edits, I did not add any external assets (with one tiny exception that I’m sure you’ll all notice, ha). Adding external assets from other films and shows (or original VFX) tends to break visual unity, and in my opinion is a glaringly obvious addition. The work by other fan-edits is very impressive, but would not fit with the goal of this project.

The Boonta Eve Redux is comprised of the original show itself, but pared-down, shaped, and made strong.

That said, it’s important to note that no amount of re-editing can fix fundamental story problems. In my opinion, the entire existence of Kenobi is a rather unfortunate misadventure, driven almost wholly by Disney wanting to push content for content’s sake. I feel strongly that having Kenobi and Vader encounter each other between RotS and ANH is, for many reasons, a critical mistake; likewise, having Kenobi and Leia encounter each other is almost as bad.

However, this re-edit addresses some of the most glaring oversights and mistakes of the original show, while highlighting its few true successes. Ultimately, I feel that it’s a major improvement.

    Very excited to check this out. I was so disappointed with the original airing.

    I mean, I had friends who really enjoyed it. But Leia was too precocious and literally the only way the plot seemed to move forward, making Obi just weak and old seeming way before his time. They tried pushin her pet ladybug droid for marketing, I guess. The Vader confrontations looked scary but quickly became impotent. Wasted Hayden in flashbacks imo. Then they could have at least walked around the beam gate in the open desert.

    It really did dirty strong actors, like Sen Organa (Jimmy Smitts), the female resistance soldier (sorry don’t recall her name offhand), Rupert Friend, Ewan himself.

    Everyone, especially the fans, deserved so much better than another shameless grab from an out of touch executive team.

        I really hate MEGA, whenever I launch the program it tells me it’s full, I can’t download it normally, have to use the app. Only can do 5GB transfer per day. How does JDownloader help with this? I downloaded it and put in the link but it just gives me some secure boot path and no way to download the MP4

          jdownloader bypasses restrictions on downloads that websites like MEGA have. First, open Jdownloader - make sure it’s running - and then do this:

          1: Open the MEGA folder

          2: Right click on the Boonta Eve video file

          3: Select “get link”

          4: Go to jdownloader - you’ll notice the link was automatically copied into the program

          5: click “start all downloads” in the lower right

          6: profit!

    Just finished a watch, incredible job pulling all of the great parts from the show together into a very convincing “movie”.

    There were a few (like literally one or two) rough / noticeable jump-like cuts which I imagine were just unavoidable with the source material and what you needed to do with those scenes.

    Overall this is a fantastic edit, you should be very proud of this and I have already recommended it to a lot of my friends and will continue to do so (probably in lieu of ever suggesting the show itself lol).

    Downloding from mega is not working. Even trying to download with jdownloader causes a bandwidth exceeded error. Can you upload it to google drive until you figure out making a torrent of it?

      I’ll try to compress the file size to below 5gb if possible - it’s currently just over 9gb - and i’ll look into another hosting solution. Can’t do Google Drive - it would get immediately flagged - but I’ll see what I can do.

              Hey - I’m currently doing a super long encode of the cut to be more torrent-friendly, BUT: I just uploaded a more compressed and still great-looking version of the cut to MEGA, it’s under 5gb and should be easily downloadable. If it’s not, I’ll update you when the torrent encode is done.
