I still use an unsupported 2018 Asus ZenFone Max (M1) ZB555KL X00PD with a broken screen. I’d like to change the screen.

Measures of the device: 156 x 77.5 x 10.6 mm (6.14 x 3.05 x 0.42 in).

Now, I don’t know if these are standard measurements for a certain set of smartphones (the ones that can be held and used with just one hand) or if any company can choose what size it uses for their devices, making finding a screen that fits incredibly more difficult.

The other question is, how difficult would it be to do it myself?

There aren’t standardized screens for smartphones, as the inside of the screens typically has a bespoke aluminum chassis they are adhered to as part of their construction.

And since every single phone model has different insides, every screen is bespoke to its model.

You have to look on ebay for your phones screen model.

If you look for ones with a couple dead pixels they are pretty affordable though.

Putting in a generic screen with similar measurements is generally almost impossible. Looks like replacement screens for that particular phone are still available on Aliexpress though, so you could use one of those.

As some people mentioned already … Aliexpress is a good place to look for replacements. Ebay can be good as well. However I really question that its even worth it. You can find flagship phones like the Galaxy S9, Oneplus 6, LG G7, … often for less than 70 bucks in good condition.

    It depends.

Find a screen replacement guide on YouTube or ifixit or something to see if it’s doable for you. It should also point you toward finding a compatible screen.

Most screen sellers will list by model. So you can punch that in and it will land you on the right one.

The hardest part will be taking the case apart without breaking anything. Screens are usually just flex ribbon cables.
