There are way more games with anime style in the jrpg genre than in the most other genres. So what artstyle do you prefer and what game does it quite good?

Redemption Reaper is just a game i play right now that has a more realitic approache for it’s grafik. This game has not a big budge and you see that in a lot of places. I think for less budge it’s easier to do good artstyle with anime style grafik than with realistic.

Redemption Reaper

Maybe unfair, because Redemption Reaper is not such a good game and i compare it with a game i adore the artstyle, but Tales of Arise is for me a example of one of the best art styles for anime or maybe any game out there. The character models a more typical anime models, but the surround look kind of drawn. I really like it. And yes it’s not the best grafik out there, but i think one of the best art styles. That’s a big difference and for me second is way more important.

Tales of Arise

I’m fine with both, but sometimes i tend a bit more to anime art styles.

Maybe I’m forgetting an obvious one, but mainline Final Fantasy might be the only JRPG property right now that consistently uses a more “realistic” style (and even it has had its moments, like Final Fantasy IX). Manga and anime influence is massive. Realism also tends to be more expensive, and despite the genre’s massive growth the past few years, it’s still not attracting big budgets regularly.

Personally, my favorite game artist is Akihiko Yoshida (Final Fantasy XII, Bravely Default, NieR: Automata). On the technical side, my favorite style is late fourth-gen/early fifth-gen sprites with lots of frame detail. Think games like Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Final Fantasy Tactics, Suikoden I and II.

Yes i think Final Fantasy is the only that does it properly. Usualy a lot Squre Enix projekt have a more realistic approach, like Nier games, Valkyrie Elysium and if Forspiken is this an jrpg, that as well. Some maybe not the best games, but for sure expensive in produktion patly because of that style.

I like game style like sprite style games as well, but we see them rather in low budget or indie games in modern games. So i don’t think there is a consideration for that when making high budget games.
