Feels like the (d)evolution of betting on your slaves labor.
Athletes should be paid, full stop. Tuition as payment is bullshit, predatory and exploitative. If the departments lose money, that’s not our concern, it’s simply proof it’s an aristocratic old boys club, not merit based. For fucks sake, they have entire economic and accounting departments at these colleges.
Let the players unionize and negotiate theyre own. Make some space in your opinions for other people to exercise their own faculties. If we started society over, this isn’t how any of us would make team sports, university, or even heirarchy itself. Looking at things thru that lens, it’s frankly indefensible.
That’s pretty damning in my eyes. Of any college sport losing money and of the financial programs of said colleges.
Add that to the fact that a degree today is worth less than at any other moment I’ve been alive while simultaneously being the most expensive and it really feels like this is all just old money playing with their toys.
