Why don’t you move to the dozens of instances that enable downvotes? Reddthat is literally one of the few instances that disable them (I know because I looked for them): https://github.com/maltfield/awesome-lemmy-instances?tab=readme-ov-file

You now can export and import your settings in two clicks in the settings menu, maybe you should consider moving elsewhere? Lemm.ee and sh.itjust.works are usually good choices

I’m sorry you are annoyed by it, but we won’t be enabling down votes for the foreseeable future.

I’ve previously responded to another user who felt this way: https://reddthat.com/comment/2392123

I understand your issues, I truely do. I still occasionally hit the downvote only to remember, oh yeah disabled. If I feel strongly enough I might reply or just go about my day. If it is against the rules then I’ll report it (or delete it as I’m the admin)

We have the new Hide feature which I’m sure will be useful if there is content that you don’t want to see, this is still in beta so I doubt any mobile apps have it sorted yet.

At the end of the day there is still too many people who view /All and downvote anything they don’t like. They don’t bother to find communities that interest them and downvote the “other side” of a discussion.

Unfortunately the landscape of policing downvote abusive behaviour has not changed since my last comment 8 months ago.

I hope you understand, and if you do want to swap to another instance there is an export feature that will help make your swap easy!

    Cheers,
    Tiff

removal of downvotes is great because it forces people who disagree to actually engage with what they disagree with and as a result discourse happens, otherwise most people would just throw an angry downvote and move on.

Indeed. I really hope we can move away from the up/downvote system in the future.

A slashdot system, with vote options such as “Informative”, “Funny”, etc, with negative options such as “Bad faith”, “trolling” etc, would be so much better

You’ll get ratioed from other instances. You wouldn’t see them from Reddthat, but instances who have downvotes display them

Why would people who choose instances with downvotes be against downvotes on an instance they’re not even using?

Also, ratio of upvotes:comments could also work. Few up votes, but lots of comments from unique people could still count maybe?
