They may file a lawsuit against you and try to get whatever they can out of your assets in the United States. But they’re not going to chase you abroad. If they do try, that will mean to waste way too much money and that will defeat the purpose of being in that debt collection industry for a profit.
On the other hand, they may decide to go after the most flagrant violators. Remember, the Chinese government would much rather surrender one student than piss off Wells Fargo. A big company spending $1 million to scare off the next thousand thieves makes sense, especially when you consider that the $1 million is a legitimate ‘business expense,’
