I’ve been thinking about starting a new project.

I was really inspired by the look of the shawl in this blog post.

The problem I’m running into is finding yarn that will fade from one colour to the next gradually over the span of 1000m. All the skeins I’m finding in my local shop vary in colour a couple of times in just 300m, or much less gradual than that.

If such a product can’t be easily found, I suppose I could buy several skeins, cut them into many long pieces, group those pieces by colour, and then wind it all back up again? But to me that sounds like a crazy idea.

I’m the first to admit that I’m new to crochet and I’m still just shopping at the local general craft store. That’s why I’m posting. I’d really appreciate any advice that more experienced folks have on finding what I’m looking for.

You should check out Alize Bella Ombre Batik! It’s only one color transition but it’s a 900m long gradient which is really pretty.

Looks like I can order on Amazon easily enough. Going to see if I can get it more locally though, and leave that for a last resort.

        Thanks!

I hadn’t even considered asking. It’s a Michael’s craft shop, so I assumed they just stock whatever corporate HQ tells them to. But the people who work there are passionate and if there’s a way for it to happen they’d be happy to let me know, I’m sure. Thanks.

If they can’t, email the creator and ask where they got their supplies. Or search for a yarn store online that’s willing to ship it.

        Where there’s a will…. :)

Maybe Etsy would have some good options? One thing to be aware of is that some of the color changing yarns don’t have a smooth ombre transition like in your link even when they say they do. I’ve been fooled by some of the yarns at Michaels before.
