You know that basket was upright before the cat was painted in.
Without zooming in, those coins looks suspiciously like something else…
Now you mention it…
Technically not a still life, because the cat is still (represented as being) alive.
I’m starting to think the cat was dead and mounted because there’s no way it sat still for the painting or didn’t push all the items off the counter.
What’s in the big basket? Chickpeas?
