we’ve got a megathread for discussion over at !speedrun@sh.itjust.works - https://programming.dev/post/16201685
but maybe there will be more discussion here instead?
anyways, it’s live now, HYPE! https://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick
I always forget this shit exists until it’s on. Side note, I don’t necessarily think SGDQ is to blame for the declined interest, I just think most people don’t care for speed runs anymore.
I miss the older marathons. Everything was in person, which I feel had better energy. And the runs were simpler. I don’t really like 4-way races, or controller passing whatever. It’s all a gimmick as far as I’m concerned. I like paying attention to the games and how skilled the runners are.
this is in person
I agree about some gimmicks like 2 players 1 controller, or playing games with a dance pad or whatever, they seem difficult but still feel like gimmicks to me
4-way races are ok if you’re familiar with the game and speedrun already, but otherwise hard to watch
Nobody ever really cared for speedruns. It’s always been a niche hobby.
Pretty much. It’s not something most of my circle of casual gamers know about. Even the hardcore gamers don’t watch live and usually catch a recording of something specific.
Early days of twitch I think most big channels were speed runners of some sort like binding of Isaac
Peanut Butter the dog will be doing his speedrun in about an hour!
last day :(
Hell yeah. I always catch as much as I can live and watch the rest over the next couple weeks.
