Not quite. When Putin switched Russia from communism to crony capitalism, inequality increased for the average person, and people were surprised how things got worse. Add to that how western corporation set up shop in Russia just to exploit everyone and screw things up, and the population went from being cautiously optimistic about US businesses setting up shop to actively hating the west.
