I noticed this too yesterday when I posted a youtube link on Lemmy. Couldn’t get the Cyrilic blurb to go away, so switched to a piped.video link. Probably for the best anyway.
Talking it over with Lemmy.World admins, we’re thinking it’s because the server is in Finland and YouTube is going “Eh, Russia, close enough!”
In all unfairness to these companies, geolocation via IP address is pretty hit or miss sometimes
This has been worrying me the past day or two also
It’s got to be something in the link unfurling process being detected as Russian localized, right?

Don’t think so, the Cloudstrike IPs for lemmy.world are in Canada, and the server proper is in Finland. 🤷♂️
