    More details?

Otherwise my only take away is that they used to cut holes into the side of a house and shove dead people in there.

Not well informed myself on the subject, but the artist describes it as:

Cutaway of a Zapotec burial tomb, located under a house, with the entrance opening up to a courtyard. This is how they did it far back in the day, about 2500 years ago, in Central America. Tombs were filled with lots of offerings, and previous remains of bodies were pushed further back in to make room for the newly departed.

Assignment for my Intro to Scientific Illustration class. Had to be crazy accurate, and was scrutinized by a Zapotec expert Archaeologist. This final configuration was my fifth attempt.

Supposedly, a scientific visualization of this type of Zapotec tomb/burial, had never been done before.

      Pencil drawing colored in Photoshop.

Ah, just like the utensils drawer in my kitchen.
