This was an interesting approach to an episode. There have been plenty of anime adaptations of manga with short chapters I have watched before (Pseudo Harem would be another example from this season). However, none of them have come out at the beginning of the episode like this one and basically said, you know what, here are 18 super short bits that are pretty much unrelated to one another, have fun. I think with how extremely meta and self-aware this series is, it can get away with something like that. It all felt a bit like a Flying Circus episode.

As for the sketches, like most of the humor in this show, some connected with me and some didn’t. I think my favorite one was the gold/silver antler. I have read/watched so many different versions of that myth over the years that I was surprised that this show’s take on it caught me off guard. I found it genuinely funny that an antler with RGB lighting suddenly becomes the gamer antler.

This episode took the meta commentary and fourth wall breaks to a whole new level. One that I appreciated was the jab at Disney for being litigious. Also the recurring bit about summer vacation/uniforms and how the summer ended basically in the scene after it started. It was all delightfully stupid. It was a giant wink to the viewer.
