I’ve been (probably like most players) playing around with Necromancy the past few days. I’m finding necromancy to be one of the more interesting skills Jagex has released. I think like archeology before it, it has a lot of different components to the skill that helps keep it fresh, vs just lighting fires. It also seems to have a lot of tie ins with other skills and under utilized items (e.g. ashes) which seems nice (and perhaps a bit OSRS inspired).

What are you thoughts? Are you loving it? Hating it? Somewhere in between?

So far I love it! (lvl 75) It’s indeed varied, combat feels great and different enough to feel like a new combat style. I really like how there are seemingly more resources to manage instead of just adrenaline, as well as the flexibility that lack of some cooldowns offers. The city is beautiful and really feels like it’s coming back to life as I level and summon more souls.

I like the preparation phase of rituals. Preparing the glyphs and candles for the right ritual seems fitting. I was a little disappointed in the rituals themselves though. I was hoping to actually see a magical ritual. I guess I imagined the player using necrotic energy to weave a pattern, getting more complex as the ritual progresses. A sense of power building up during the ritual. Random skeletal things as disturbances could have been blockages in the flow of soul energy or other problems with the pattern instead.

But the only thing so far that has really disappointed me has been the quests and lore, the part I was most looking forward to. The quests are just wrapper. It feels a bit similar to Menaphos release, a beautiful city with awful quests that leave the place feeling hollow. Although, admittedly the quests aren’t as bad as the Menaphos ones. There was also a lore error (calling Dr Nabanik Azzanadra) in dialogue. The only redeeming factor of the quests/lore released with this skill (that I’ve completed so far) has been Rasial and the interactions the player has with him. Sadly those have been rather limited and brought down a bit by how the player character is portrayed, but he actually feels like an interesting character. I especially like the whole villain as a teacher thing.

      Zaros into Necromancy? 🤯 lol

Yes, I’m kind of hoping that they rethink some of the existing combat skills in some future update. Necromancy’s combat feels far more refined to me than what we got with EoC, and much closer to how I would’ve wanted magic in particular to work.

Definitely would be cool if the rituals had more eye candy like you’re suggesting! I agree though that the rituals setup is a neat mechanic. :)

I haven’t done as much with the quest and the lore, I’m not much of a lore hound :) This is actually reminding me I started a couple of those quests that I didn’t finish 🪦

I’m late the the party here, but figured I’m chime in too. I finished 120 a few days ago, and have really enjoyed it. Overall it feels really good. I like that the meta is rituals, so it doesn’t feel like you just need to afk grind combat again, though it’s an option if people want. I do wish rituals were more viable pre-90 (though knowing what I do now, it might be better than I thought).

I have finally gotten into doing rasial, and other actual pvm, and it feels strange, but good. I like being able to do some competitive dps without needing all the switches and keybinds like other styles. I hope they maintain that, and don’t muck it up in future updates. I like that a lot of abilities don’t have cool downs, they are useable as long as you meet the requirements. It makes it feel a lot more intuitive. I’m interested to see what they do with it down the line.
