The story of literal “American Jesus”.

A good story, a good criticism of American culture as a whole and the internal desire of all Americans for some savior or politician to expunge them and save them from their national and personal sins.

Enjoy! One of my favorite issues from a comic of all time.

Edit: I’ve been told he’s been accused of sexual assault, scratching my previous comment on being thankful he didn’t end up a shitty person. Genuinely had no idea.

It’s a shame Neil Gaiman didn’t keep his “radical” edge, but it’s also a good thing he didn’t end up some rabid transphobe or etc.

I mean he’s been accused of sexual assault by multiple people.

I had no idea about that, genuinely. Reading about it now.

      That deeply saddens me.

Just read a bit. JFC how hard is it to not sexually assault your staff? Even if you don’t sexually assault your staff, it’s like celebrity 101 you do not put yourself in a position that could be misinterpreted in any way, shape, or form. Like holy shit take your bath before you have people over. Even if he didn’t do anything wrong, he deserves to have his money taken for being a dipshit.

But there’s no way it was consensual. She was his employee. Even if she consents, it’s not consent. Fuck him.

Agreed. I’m so upset about this. I’ve loved Sandman for most of my life and hearing about this makes me so depressed. What a piece of shit. With these many accusations it’s hard to deny any of it. Even one is suspect.

It’s especially shitty because The Sandman is feminist and queer friendly from a time when it wasn’t safe to do so. There’s that PSA in the back of one of the issues about AIDS prevention and practicing safe sex when the it was the height of the epidemic. Reactionaries were okay letting millions die but there was this comic book sticking its neck out when it didn’t have to.

Yeah, you and a few others are letting me know, had no idea.

I’ll refrain from posting any Sandman or Gaiman in the future. It’s a shame, because I loved the series (only series by him I liked) and the fact that it’s a unique take in the DC universe.

I’ll keep this up so others can see/learn this. If mod wants me to delete it I will.

Yeah, holy shit. I haven’t heard about any of these. I don’t keep up on celebrity news.

        Damn, I’m mildly depressed now.

I read the article citrussy_capybara linked and the previous article it links to, as well as checked out the Tortoise Media page about their podcast, but I can’t find any mention of a groundskeeper. what’d I miss?

They had a family living on their property and “helping out” in exchange for living on the property. It says she was doing pottery, but I read that as she was also doing general maintenance and such too.

That’s a very common situation in a lot of wealthy neighborhoods. I know tons of people out here who live in small above garage units with their families on masion grounds and usually have a specific task like personal trainer or tennis coach, but are also expected to maintain and manage the house when the owner isn’t there for free because they get that guest unit for free.

It sounds like a good deal, but remember that the guest unit is always there and costs the millionaire owner nothing, but they can leverage that free asset to coerce labor out of more desperate people.

oh you meant like caretaker and I thought you meant landscaper or gardener. I just didn’t put two and two together and thought there was another testimony I missed. yeah her story sounds horrible

Yeah, I always just call it groundskeeper because when I did it they made me mow lawns and scare off trespassers and stuff. It really should be illegal to have that sort of contract. Even if it’s “unofficial”.

The fact that it was an unofficial contract is what gave him so much power over her.

I didn’t really do it for a mansion either lol, just took care of a property for a local landlord/real estate company. Had to spend a bunch of money fixing the home up and doing free labor in the lots nearby that they were planning to sell.

After about 2 years, they booted me out and sold the house for like 600k. When we moved in it was nearly abandoned and in pretty rough shape.

Well I just did a some research, as I usualy do when i learn about such things… I must admit that sadly at the end in most cases i must agree with accusers. But here i really do not know, maybe i I missed something, but i would rather wait for some stronger evidence, before I decide to put him on “fuck him” list… Fell free to change my mind.

Gaiman stole all his best ideas from Tanith Lee.

Read her books’ and you’ll see what I mean.

Night’s Master, Death’s Master, and The Birthgrave would make a good start.
