After being left on read by the mods this is the next step in my attempt in getting clarification on how my comment could be read as ‘racist’, the cited ban reason.

Seeing no official appeal process I messaged the first mod on the list that had activity in the last couple days. Here is the message I sent @Rooki@lemmy.world on 07 Jul:

Hi,

this is about my ban from Political Memes on lemmy.world . I don’t see an official appeal process nor the mod who banned me so I am messaging you rather randomly. Sorry if I oveelooked something.

I am not sure how my comment was racist when Pugjesus is the one dismissing black voices with a “lol stop being melodramatic”. Fairly certain there is a misunderstanding which I hope to rectify.

this is about my ban from !politicalmemes@lemmy.world. I don’t see an official appeal process nor the mod who banned me which is why I see no alternative to DM’ing you directly. Sorry if I overlooked something. I also messaged Rooki over a week ago but never got a reply.

I am not sure how my comment can be seen as racist. I’m hoping to clarify what surely is just a misunderstaning.

They at least promptly replied 2.5h later with:

I haven’t taking any mod actions on your account but I will ask around.

My “Appreciate it” was the last communication between me and anyone on the mod team.

Why I care

I am hoping to at least get an explanation on how my comment could be read as racist, because to me this seems like a willful misunderstanding at best (I am quoting Lincoln, those are not my words or views, as should be obvious from the CW I applied to it). Especially with no mod actions taken against the person replying to me linking readsettlers.org with a dismissal of the author, who has been very active in black liberation (though themself not black, that was a mistake in my first message), as “melodramatic”.

    a. pugjesus is a bit of a fuck, imho

    b. community actions are the discretion of community mods. the only possible recourse if you arent satisfied with their actions (or lack of) is with the instance admins

    c. instance admins are busy af, at least the good ones are. a report of racism, libelous or otherwise, is unlikely to be investigated seriously without a groundswell of support, especially with how many of these sorts of complaints are lodged in this way, and most of them frivolous

    c.ii. most admins dont read these support communities, at least not actively with a view of individual resolution. its generally more like open tech support, anyone with the power of a simple user can answer. this has been my experience, at least

    d. because of that reputation for frivolity, most people wont have read first before downvoting. even if they had, theyd find you are at least not providing the full quote, because pugjesus goes on to quote two paragraphs you didnt include in this post. either that or pugjesus has gone far beyond normal fuckery, which seems frankly unlikely

    e. takin shit way too serious for a meme comm. your effort is wasted on memes. take it to a real community, imo

      a. Yeah i hear he’s got a reputation from others as well, quite settler-brained individual. Further down he talks about antiwhite “racial prejudice” (not racism!)

      b. Rooki is an instance admin right? Also a mod there so I already reached out to them.

      c.i Well this is kind of a last ditch effort.

      d. I directly linked the comment chain first thing so people can judge for themselves. Also my ban wasn’t about pugjesus so I didn’t feel it necessary to give a detailed recounting on his views. Plus I feel like directly quoting a PoC venting about the sins of the empire, only to then dismiss them as “melodramatic” makes it, if anything, worse.

      e. I mean I didn’t care enough to make this post and let the whole thing sit for over a month, I just want to there to be a public record of it.
