I’m restarting after gaining back from a big loss that finished at the beginning of last year. Last time I did lots of walking and then bicycling. I’m struggling a bit getting more active this time. I think my biggest problem is that I want to go at the same level that I was going when I stopped and I need to slow down a bit and build back up to that.

What are you doing to get more active? Any exercise programs, youtube workouts, or other resources you’ve use that you enjoyed? Are there any exercise or active hobby lemmy communities that would pair well with this community?

I went from couch to 160 mile solo gravel ride in about 4 months and the thing that got me there was that I found a long trail and I stuck to it. Each long ride I’d aim to just go a little further, and I’d adjust how much water I was carrying, food, etc.

Sounds boring but it’s actually pretty fun, knowing where all the benches and portapotties are and using them as landmarks, hitting up all the same boring landmarks but then one day you get to the next city, new milestone.

Might be a fun take on cycling

I second cycling. If you have the time for it, it’s a great way to spend an early morning on a day off. It makes the surrounding area seem so accessible and interesting in a way that a car just doesn’t.

For example, I like to go to our city pool sometimes on the weekend. It’s about a 5 mile / 15 minute drive. On a bike it’s only about 30 minutes, so timewise it still works out for me. But I enjoy the mental relaxation that cruising through the neighborhood to my destination brings.
