Pge has no competitors. You gotta target the protest at the government, or take it to the streets. This is even dumber than doing a one day Amazon boycott.
Yes, and no.
Imagine a world where they were able to get enough people to consistently shut off their power to such a degree that it put PG&E under real financial strain.
That would get their attention, and the governments. At which point they would either amend existing regulations through their captured regulators within the bureaucracy, or sneak through a bill that granted them the ability to charge customers enormous penalties for participating in “collective actions that damage the grid”.
But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t do it. That just means that they (Californians/rate payers) have to push harder. Rinse, and repeat until the system is reformed, or they stop having worry about utility bills because their homes have been swallowed by the shifting earth.
Nah screw that just be like SF
We have been talking about doing something similar the last decade or so. Then nothing happens…
I wonder what they did to keep the momentum going?
maybe instead of talking go and start a petition. get off your ass and do something
Like a protest?
A real protest would be to get millions of people to synchronize flipping their breakers on and off every 5 or so minutes for an hour. That would likely actually cause infrastructural damage. Power distribution infrastructure isn’t really designed to handle repeated massive transients like that, afaik. And that’s when it’s maintained properly - we’re talking about PG&E here.
For real though, when the fuck are they going to have their C-suite thrown in jail and just get taken over by the state? I struggle to imagine how CA itself could do a worse job than PG&E.
Yeah and that’ll what, cause an ancient substation to blow and burn everyone’s houses down again?
You’re right… but that won’t stop you catching terrorism charges if you try pushing for that.
Ohh yes then do ConEd here in NYC next.
Oh yeah I hear they’re pretty bad. At least they don’t regularly set half of your state on fire, though.
If anyone thinks they want to participate in this… you should probably flip each breaker off individually before switching the main power. It’s not a great idea to be turning them all back on simultaneously by only flipping the main.
Then remember that you’ve cut the power to your fridge and freezer for the entire day…
It’s only for 3 hours instead of the full day. Ive been telling local people if it helps just unplug literally everything but your fridge. People can only do so much.
The poster says 6am to 9pm but regardless, leaving the fridge on is probably for the best.
I didn’t see the am…woops.
Yeah that’s way too long for a fridge/freezer. Thanks!
It depends. If you don’t open either it’s not so bad. Mine ended up being off for like 30 hours before and it was mostly fine. Things in the fridge didn’t last quite as long but nothing spoiled. Not even the milk.
And depends on the thermal mass you got in there, a bit of planning with some water jugs can go a long way
(Important to note they will expand in the freezer so leave some air space in the jug)
It’s so fucking hot
I’m hoping in October it will be cool enough.
What is this? Why? This is maybe the most ridiculous protest poster I have ever seen, especially the fine print.
remember when we all did a great job saving water so they just upped the rates? something tells me this isn’t going to help consumers
I’m not replacing my freezer storage to stick it to PG&E
Flip all the breakers but the kitchen?
Don’t open your freezer then? Also look up class solidarity
tagging you as self-proclaimed voice of the working class
Aww cute thankies 💚
