Went both looking for fellow tankies and seeing who I should be blocking on Mastodon by looking at the hashtag #tankies.

It gave me brain damage and I also found a few of these “lemmy is made by tankies, ewww can’t use it”-posts that I had never seen before. So sharing these for our mutual enjoyment:

Also just the general vibe of the posts with this tag is just so hostile. We really live rent free in these peoples heads. Interesting how so many of these were ukraine flag or isntreal flag profiles too, also a few anne applebaum replies, because of course.

The vibe is pretty much whatever this drivel is by a true communism understander:

You kind of have to on mastodon because they don’t do keyword extraction to automatically pull posts into topical feeds like twitter does. Most people who aren’t wankers just put them in a big list at the bottom of the post though, so as to seem a bit less early-2010s

Why is every social media platform obsessed with making the process of talking to another human so convoluted and esoteric? If it weren’t for Lemmygrad and Hexbear, I’d only ever interact with people IRL, it’s less hassle than doing it on 90% of social media.

Mastodon tries to structure itself around consenting to things rather than being auto-opted into interaction with large groups of people you don’t know. It largely fails at this task but I think it’s an okay design goal.
