32 bits is simply too much of a limitation for many even pretty trivial tasks.

That makes no sense. It’s only a limitation when it comes to memory addressing - which is how we ended up with 32-bit hacks like PAE. There aren’t any tasks that we didn’t previously do on 32-bit CPUs that 64-bit suddenly made possible.
