The lengths people will go to in order to defend being a dickhead to marginalized groups rather than just simply not being a dickhead is astonishing sometimes
It’s like a reverse marshmallow test, you can accept your mistake and apologize immediately, which feels bad for a second, or you can dig in your heels in an attempt to avoid that second and feel bad indefinitely instead.
It’s absurd! A simple apology does a lot more than a chud-esque explanation and revision of events. If you have already offended people, explaining why you offended them is not going to fix it. Just apologize and sit the fuck down!

The word salad is mostly due to them starting to realize they are wrong and don’t know how to make it right without being on the “losing end” of the discussion. A simple apology means they lost an argument on the internet, which your average redditor cannot accept.
Instead they will go into a lengthy nonsensical explanation that eventually ends in the victim of their transgression being wrong.
“Get everyone to use gender neutral language”, as though that isn’t a potentially much bigger reach than getting people to respect binary sex where it’s manually specified in fairly straightforward language
