I think we have a general path forward based on community feedback. “We see you, we hear you!”
I went ahead and unpinned the old post. I’m pinning this one for now and will edit this post when I wake up from eepy time. I had a very mid week and have no particular alarm set so be on look out. Love y’all and I’m amped for my first announcement post since coming back. :)
I think carcosa going to self crit about the moderation process that lead to backlash is the exact reason I like them being a community mouthpiece and decision maker. we all make mistakes, but owning up to that, especially to some people who are pissed off about it, is very good community leadership
I think I get what their idea was, I see the logic. people who post a lot in certain comms, and the site as a whole, have a vested interest in the community, and thus it makes sense to bring them on board to help manage things at a low level and listen to input on more major decisions. at first glance, this is not a bad shout. the problem is the barrier to entry really was so god damn low, and that obfuscating a lot of this decision making process has lead to a disconnect in the eyes of some. I can’t see what goes on in the mod chat, but I’ve spent enough time moderating niche internet communities myself to know that some people really shouldn’t be mods and can really get a bit of a power trip when given the ability to shape a space to how they want it to be
