MOSCOW, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Russia’s first moonshot in nearly half a century has failed after its Luna-25 spacecraft spun out of control and smashed into the moon.

I’m not entirely sure there was a purpose for this mission other than maybe vanity or perception in the international community - either way this hurts science.
I’m sad to hear this. I’m sure everyone involved in the mission is devastated.
