Will they go the way of MySpace or will this truly blow over in a few week?

I think there needs to be one or two really good communities that kick things off. Right now it seems like people are flooding in and randomly interacting.

I think if one or two fun communities get things rolling and we get a good app or two it has a solid chance.

I’ve honestly been shocked at the engagement on Lemmy so early on. I created !rollercoasters!rollercoasters@lemm.ee less than a month ago only to try things out on Lemmy and next thing I knew there were conversations breaking out and over 100 subscribers… I even ran into people on the rollercoasters sub at reddit asking about Lemmy… Mastodon is slowly starting to catch but it seems like Lemmy has already lit up like a torch and still keeps rapidly growing. It’s being fueled by Reddit’s mistakes.

I think the users are all here just looking for someone to pull the trigger on creating a community they want to be part of. I think the biggest threat right now is fracturing… If everyone creates their own community that duplicates others rather than joining one that already exists that’ll be the biggest enemy.
